Valentine's Day Stars

Who says that February is too late for snowflakes?? I ordered these wire snowflake frames back around Christmas, but never got around to using them. Last weekend I had fun at the bead shop by my house, picking out pinks, reds, whites, and clears.

I made 6 of these little -stars, we'll call them- then strung them up on some super-thin pink grosgrain ribbon.

...And yes, I did take these pictures in my classroom. During the week I'm never at home when there's any natural light (sad, huh?), so I lugged a few different projects into my classroom for a before-school photo shoot.

Valentine's Garland

Okay, I love this project so much!! All I did was cut out about a bazillion felt circles in three different sizes. It wasn't as labor intensive as it sounds, because I cut two layers at a time and did it over a couple of days while watching tv. Then I used invisible thread (wow, SUCH a pain to use, by the way) to stitch the circles together. Once I got rolling, I sewed them all together in less than ten minutes. I could totally see making these in other colors for birthday parties and other holidays. I was even thinking that they'd make a cute bulletin board border in my classroom. You could cut other shapes too, like leaves, and then it would look like a lovely leaf garland. How cute would one of those be in autumn colors around a classroom door on the first day of school??

Admittedly a Little Early

I realize that December 28 is a tad early to be thinking about Valentine's Day, but what can I say? When inspiration calls, you pick up the phone.

I saw these on Martha Stewart's website.

I think that I'd make them slightly smaller next time (I used a cd as a template), because these are a little unwieldy. Plus, I have a bowl that is perfect to display them in, and smaller ones would be easier to arrange.

These would make really cute classroom Mother's Day gifts. Students could write little notes or poems to their moms on strips of paper, then tuck them inside these. And this project is definitely kid-doable! I mean, if I managed it...
